Bezesteni (bez: the Turkish word for cotton or linen), the old textile and jewellery market, is still here, waiting for women to choose the cloth for the new dress they are about to sew. This covered market is one of the few Ottoman buildings of Thessaloniki that has retained its original use ever since the 15th century, when it was built. I love wandering around its small shops and most of all I love climbing the stairs to the upper level, under the domes that cover it, and enjoy the coloful view from high up there.
